Morganton, NC
Whole Foods Market carried this beautiful scarf this holiday season. (I KNOW! I got one and it might be my favorite gift!) With just a little investigation, I learned that Maggie’s Functional Organics, the maker of the stylish scarves, socks, and more, actually partners with SACCO (Southern Appalachian Center for Cooperative Ownership/ Ownership Appalachia) in hiring talented mill workers from right here in Morganton.

This group of workers have organized in the name Opportunity Threads. I cannot wait to hear more about the innovation they’ll bring to sustainable business in the area and to the economy as a whole.

Maggie’s website is a great read for anyone interested in buying soft, wholesome clothing (I’ve had MANY compliments on my scarf!) and for anyone interested in simply being inspired by this company’s vision and dedication to changing the lives of people through commerce. Check them out!

My favorite Christmas gift this year!
